In the 80s of the 19th century Prince George and Princess Emanuela fundamentally transformed the castle one last time. Preferably Romanesque and Gothic style elements and also some of the Renaissance have been cited in the style of historicism.
The building, which was grown over centuries duriing various phases of construction, finally should become a unified ensemble. At the same time the princely couple has span the bow back to the very beginnings of the castellum brunenfelsz, back to the roots of the medieval castle.
On 2 July 1884, the topping-out ceremony of the new donjon is celebrated. Drafts and ideas for this last fundamental transformation come from the Hannoverian architect Edwin Oppler, who certainly was inspired by french colleagues such as Eugène Viollet-le-Duc or Émile Boeswillwald.
